Your TreatmentQuestions & Answers
Q01. Am I a Good Candidate?
ANSWER: Good candidates are those that have a normal BMI* 18.5 to 24.9 i.e. you are within a healthy weight range for young and middle-aged adults but have noticeable bulges in certain areas they’d like to get rid of. The CoolSculpting fat reduction procedure is specifically designed for those who have unwanted fat that resists diet and exercise.
If you are overweight BMI 25 to 30 we may still be able to help you. With each treatment the fat in the area is reduced by about 20% therefore if there is a larger fat deposit it may require 2-3 treatments to that area to reduce it adequately. The fatty bulge is softened and reduced in thickness but may not be completely eliminated if you are significantly overweight. The CoolSculpting procedure is not a weight loss solution for people who are obese. It is, however a non-surgical alternative to liposuction. Request a one-on-one consultation with us to determine if the CoolSculpting procedure is right for you.
*Your Body mass index (BMI) is one method used to estimate your total amount of body fat. It is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by your height in metres squared (m2). If you do not know your BMI copy this link into your web browser to estimate it: http://www.heartfoundation.org.au/healthy-eating/Pages/bmi-calculator.aspx
Q02. Where does the fat go? Are the results permanent?
ANSWER:Once the treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen), your body processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells. Once the treated fat cells are gone, they’re gone for good.
Q03. How long is each session? How many sessions will I need?
ANSWER:We will help you create an individualized treatment plan tailored to your specific goals. The length of your CoolSculpting session will vary depending on the number of areas being treated during one visit. We may schedule additional sessions in order to meet your goals. Typically sessions are of 1-3 hours duration.
Q04. What does it feel like?
ANSWER:Initially a vacuum suction is applied to your area of excess fat being treated. This gives an intense pulling sensation. As the cooling begins during the first few minutes, you will feel pressure and intense cold. This soon dissipates. Many people read, watch videos, work on their laptop, or even take a nap during their treatment. For the first 5-10 minutes after removal of the cooling device it is uncomfortable in the area treated but this rapidly disappears and the area feels like it has been mildly bruised. This resolves over for 7-10 days afterwards.
Q05. Is the CoolSculpting procedure safe?
ANSWER:The CoolSculpting procedure is approved for use in the flank (love handles), abdomen, back bulges, inner and outer thighs, inner arms, knees and beneath the chin. With over one million CoolSculpting treatments performed worldwide, it is proven to be an effective treatment for non-surgical fat reduction.
Q06. Are there any side effects?
ANSWER:During the procedure you may experience deep pulling, tugging, pinching, numbness or discomfort. Following the procedure, typical side effects include temporary numbness, redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging and pain. Some patients may feel faint during the treatment. Rare side effects may also occur such as late onset pain, paradoxical hyperplasia (increased fat in the area), freeze burn, subcutaneous induration (lumpiness of the fat), wrinkling or hyperpigmentation (darkening) of the skin.
Q07. Can I have the treatment?
ANSWER:The CoolSculpting procedure is not for everyone. You should not have the CoolSculpting procedure if you suffer from cryoglobulinemia or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria or are pregnant / breast feeding. If you are on blood thinners, have severe Raynaud’s disease, open wounds or severe eczema this treatment may not be suitable for you. The CoolSculpting procedure is not a treatment for obesity. As with any medical procedure, ask us if the CoolSculpting procedure is right for you.
Q08. Can I return to normal activities after my treatment?
ANSWER:Yes, you can. The CoolSculpting procedure is completely non-surgical, so typically you can return to normal activities immediately. Most patients are able to return to work straight after their CoolSculpting session is over. Your treated area may feel bruised for the first 1-2 weeks and make some activities mildly uncomfortable.
Q09. When will I see results?
ANSWER:You may start to see changes as quickly as three weeks after your treatment, and will experience the most dramatic results after two to three months. But your body will still flush out fat cells and continues doing so for up to four to six months after treatment.
Q10. How successful is this treatment?
ANSWER: 92% of patients who have just one CoolSculpting treatment notice a reduction of fat in the treated area, with 79% of patients seeing a positive difference in the way their clothes fit. On average, the fat in the area is reduced by 20-25% with one treatment at 12 weeks.
Q11. Do I need to take special supplements or follow a strict diet and exercise program?
ANSWER: No supplements or pills are required and you do not have to adopt new diet and exercise habits. Many patients feel more motivated to take care of themselves after their CoolSculpting treatment. It is as if they get a second lease on their body and want to start anew again by taking even better care of themselves.
Q12. What happens if I gain weight down the road?
ANSWER: Many people, after seeing the results from their CoolSculpting procedure, take even better care of themselves. However, if you do gain weight, you may gain it but it will distribute evenly all over your body, not specifically in the treated areas.
Q13. How much does the CoolSculpting procedure cost?
ANSWER: The price for CoolSculpting procedures varies depending on your areas of concern, the number of sessions needed, and your ultimate goals. We will help create a customized treatment plan, in person, that’s tailored to your body, your goals, and your budget. Prices start from $750 per treatment with discount packages available for multiple treatments.
Results and patient experience may vary.
